Manganox is a naturally occurring manganese dioxide-based mineral used in the purification process. Manganox is a granular filter media for the removal of iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide. The principle of Manganox operation is that hydrogen sulfide, iron and manganese are oxidized and retained in the loading with subsequent removal during backwashing.
No additional chemicals are required during regeneration.
The media is a very durable material and no substances are leached from the media and do not enter the drinking water. Manganox has a large capacity and successfully maintains very low contaminant concentrations in the treated water. Manganox can be used in combination with aeration, chlorination, ozonation and other additional treatment methods in cases where the source water contains high concentrations of contaminants. Chlorine and other oxidizing agents accelerate the catalysis reaction. Due to the fact that the material is heavy, it is very important that the flushing of filters loaded with Manganox is correct and ensures sufficient expansion of the layer and long service life.
How Manganox works:
Hydrogen sulfide, iron and manganese are oxidized and retained in the loading and subsequently removed during backwashing. Due to the heavy nature of the material, it is very important that the flushing of filters loaded with Manganox is correct and ensures sufficient bed expansion and long service life.
Advantages of Manganox:
- Effective removal of iron, sulfur and manganese.
- material strength, long service life and low percentage of wear.
- no need for additional chemicals during regeneration, only periodic backwashing.
- wide pH range of the medium.
- high oxidation capacity.
Field of application:
- Removal of iron up to 10 ppm;
- Manganese removal up to 5 ppm;
- Removal of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell) up to 3 ppm;
- Not recommended for removal of ferrous bacteria;
- Not recommended for removal of manganese bacteria;
- Not recommended for removal of organic matter and tannin;
